So there is not much new to share - which is actually best case scenario for this sort of thing. The testing at M.D. Anderson and the consult with the doctors there was fairly consistent with the findings of the other doctors at Methodist. There is still a MRI scheduled for Friday to rule out any other finding but there is very little concern of that showing anything concerning. Treatment is the next step. Next week, Alice has several appointments Monday and Tuesday that will kick off the "get rid of the cancer mission". Surgery and chemo are on the calendar and will be effective. Next week will determine which one goes first as this is the part of medicine that is an art rather than a science. The science says they have options and so the art of balancing treatment with real life is up for consideration. Pray for discernment as those decisions are being made.
Alice and Ben told the little kids over the weekend about the diagnosis. They are processing all the information and are asking questions. One of the kids had the following response to the news - which I just love....
Little voice asked, "So, they are going to take this out of her body?"
They responded with a, "yes".
Then little one said, "they have done this before and lots of times?"
They responded with "yes".
Little one responds, "OK"!
And there were no more questions from this one.
Any guess which little one it was? Hint this gender is known for just liking the facts and is in the minority in Bauderland. Love that perspective it makes sense. Just precious!!!

Several test are scheduled tomorrow, including the MRI. They will start early in the morning. Lots of information will be obtained from the testing that will determine the treatment plan. These doctors are the best of the best and we are certainly excited about that! We look forward to getting a plan and getting this treatment started. We will try to update tomorrow what we learn. Here we go...
Thanks for keeping up with us. This is sure to be an adventure and we are sure to all add lots of new really long hard to say words to our vocabulary through it. We will have a vocabulary test at the recovery party so keep up!
Today, we are full of information but still not an exact plan. The appointment with the oncologist at Methodist yesterday confirmed that Alice has stage 1 breast cancer with an intensity rate of 3. Thrilled about the stage 1 part, or at least as glad as you can be with a cancer diagnosis. The stage refers to the size and this one measures 1.46 centimeters. The intensity refers to how aggressive the type of cancer and while 3 is high the amazing things is- research has an identified the antibody for this particular gene receptor cancer type (her2). That will be handy for the chemo portion of this adventure. They used way larger words to explain this but that is the version I can spell and remember.
What's next?
Well, we will be busy. There will be a MRI scheduled before the end of the week and another biopsy of the lymph nodes to better clarify that Mr. 1.46 (the mass) is alone. That is likely since a previous biopsy was NOT malignant but they are thorough and we are thankful for that. Alice will also have an appointment at MD Anderson on Tuesday, for a second opinion. Once, they know exactly what we are dealing with treatment will begin. The plan of treatment is dependent on the test in the next week. Surgery to remove the mass, chemo and radiation are all options and the order they will go will depend on final analysis of the information.
So, still lots of unknowns but lots of information and lots of great doctors who know tons about this process. Join us in prayer for clarity from the doctors, effective treatments and peace that surpasses all understanding for the situation.
